Vanessa and Jonathan wanted to have a classic wedding experience, self-describing their day as a “grown-up Disney wedding.” This incredibly brilliant (and fun) day was all made possible by the couple’s ability to infuse facets of their personality into the experience. Set at the gorgeous Portofino Yacht Club near Redondo Beach, California, this nautical location was the perfect backdrop for an elegant ceremony and reception.
Vanessa was gorgeous from head to toe, where her fairytale walk down the aisle included a powder blue set of peep toe heels with dazzling details. Her strapless modified sweetheart dress featured beading near the neckline, a fitted bodice and dramatic skirt full of billowy pick-ups. Her hair was styled in a gorgeous updo and she accessorized with a fingertip-length veil.
For contrast, Vanessa carried a maroon-colored bouquet full of calla lilies and wrapped with satin ribbon.
Her bridesmaids carried dainty bouquets of pale blue hydrangea and white roses, all while wearing short navy blue dresses.
Jonathan looked classic in a black tuxedo, gray vest and striped tie. He, too, wore a calla lily boutonniere to match his bride’s bouquet. His groomsmen wore black tuxedos but coordinated with the rest of the bridal party to wear navy blue ties and white rose boutonnieres.
Escorted by her family, Vanessa walked down the aisle to Jonathan, who stood in front of an arbor resting beneath palm trees that overlooked the ocean. The couple performed a sand ceremony, where they each poured colored sand into a vase, signifying their union. Vanessa and Jonathan both beamed throughout the ceremony as they became husband and wife.
When their walk down the aisle was complete, the couple posed with their bridal party under the palm trees for a few breathtaking photos.
Vanessa and Jonathan were also able to sneak off and take a few private photos before the reception began.
The photographer captured the essence of the venue, not only shooting the couple in the gorgeous gardens but also among its amazing nautical characteristics.
The reception was delicious and divine. Guests enjoyed a stunning cocktail hour followed by a delightful plated dinner.
It all took place in a gorgeous ballroom, outfitted with lots of windows and grandiose chandeliers.
A buttoned-up card box, dazzling champagne glasses and lots of candlelight were just a few of the decorative touches.
The couple definitely wanted to incorporate their own sense of humor so they had personalized bobble-head dolls made that represented the two of them. They were placed in front of the couple at the head table.
Vanessa and Jonathan enjoyed their first dance as husband and wife. Vanessa chose to remove her veil for the reception and added sparkling embellishments to her hair. Now, the marvelous back detail of her dress was on full display.
The cake was definitely a creative canvas for the couple. Three white tiers included ruched bands of fondant in alternating colors of champagne and red with small pearl details. But on closer inspection, one can see the small Mickey Mouse silhouettes imprinted on the fondant. What a classy way to add fun and folly into such a traditional wedding day element!
Weddings can be classy and unique. It just takes the right combination to make the vision come to life. As Walt Disney once said “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Vanessa and Jonathan are certainly big dreamers. Congratulations!
