Elizabeth and Peter were married in a traditional church ceremony at the University of Virginia followed by an outdoor reception at Ash Lawn-Highland in Charlottesville, Va. on August 10. They first met at a happy hour, while in graduate school in Chicago. After graduation, Elizabeth moved to Minneapolis and Peter to Dallas for jobs. ”He proposed after a year of long distance – the distance definitely strengthened our relationship and brought us closer together,” Elizabeth said. Guests saved the date with hand-drawn maps. When it came time for the big day, it was raining, but it cleared up just in time. The bride wore a fit ‘n’ flare lace wedding gown, accessorized with a finger-tip length veil, while the groom wore a gray suit, accessorized with silver vest and navy blue ties. ”After the ceremony we had a receiving line with a lemonade hour so that we could talk to everyone and take pictures before the reception,” she said. Fun fact: the venue is the former estate of James Monroe, and menu cards were attached to bags of peanuts because that’s what the state is best known for! The newlyweds’ best advice? ”Don’t forget to enjoy the day!” Elizabeth said. “It’s easy to get wrapped up in the little things, but the day flies by so make sure to really take it in.” In addition to a wedding cake, there was also a groom’s cake shaped like a dinosaur.
